Get back to nature with a stay at the 4-star Dorint Seehotel & Resort, located in the wooden Prüm Valley on the banks of the Bitburg reservoir (known locally as the Stausee Bitburg).
The surrounding Eifel region is known as the “green heart of Europe” and it’s easy to see why. It’s popular with hikers and mountain bikers all year round. Families are well catered for on site, with an indoor pool, four bowling lanes, a climbing wall, and tennis courts. Rowing and pedal boats can be hired at the nearby reservoir (extra charges apply for all activities). For grown-ups, there’s a gym and a spa area with beauty treatments available, and the Golf-Resort Bitburger Land is a 10-minute drive away.
For excursions further afield, Luxembourg is an hour’s drive away and the historic town of Trier, which is also within the Moselle wine region, is 40 minutes by car.
Back at the hotel, there are two restaurants -- the Gartenrestaurant has an adjoining lakeside terrace and serves an à la carte menu, and the more informal Restaurant Marktplatz serves pizza, pasta, steak, schnitzel and more. There’s a bar in the basement with a DJ on weekends.
The accommodation is made up of various sized rooms, holiday homes and family apartments, some of which are a walk away from the main building. The apartments have a kitchenette with pots and cooking utensils provided, and a terrace with a table and chairs. Wi-Fi is free throughout but unreliable (or non-existent) in some places. This resort is better suited to those looking to unplug. Ask for a room on a higher floor to benefit from the best water views.
