Overview

With a technicolor design scheme, quirky guest events and a location next door to the National Aquarium, Pier Six Pavilion and the Power Plant Live! entertainment complex -- the Pier 5 Hotel knows how to have fun.

Its setting in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor is idyllic, and the rooms are reasonably priced -- so much so that guests hardly notice the nightly $9.95 destination fee added to their bill. The hotel packs in a ton of added value, such as weekday “Crabby Hour” from 5:30-6:30pm where guests learn to prepare crab dip, crab crepes and all sorts crustacean-based goodies. Throw in some crab hats, Maryland microbrews and wine, and it’s a party.

On Saturdays from 3-4pm, there’s a chocolate reception with two sinful chocolate fountains and truffle-making demonstrations. Also included in the fee is complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel, access to the 54,000-square-foot Maryland Athletic Club and shuttle service to the hotel’s sister properties to explore other Baltimore neighborhoods like historic Fell’s Point.

Rooms are comfortably modern, with fantastic city or harbor views. The suites have a separate living room, and some come with an additional Murphy bed and wet bar with a fridge and microwave. Pets stay for free.

While there are several Inner Harbor restaurants within walking distance from the hotel, two of the country’s best surf and turf options, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood Restaurant, are directly on site.

From the press:
  • "Be prepared for something wild when you walk into the lobby of the Pier 5. It's bright and airy, with fun, offbeat sofas and a purple, red, and yellow color scheme. The rooms continue the theme, though they're much a quieter and more refined urban chic" -- Frommer’s

The room was clean, no refrig. and vending machines only on 2nd floor. The Water view was not much, and not worth the upgrade as there was no little balcony etc..
