There are lots of reasons to stay at the InterContinental Milwaukee -- its great location, the quality dining and comfortable rooms. No wonder U.S. News & World Report ranks the InterContinental as one of the city's best hotels. Rooms feature city or river views, plush bedding, flat-panel TVs, in-room coffeemakers and 24-hour room service. Superior rooms offer a lot of extra space to stretch out in, an extra sitting area and better views. Basic Wi-Fi is also complimentary, while streaming-level Wi-Fi is available for an additional fee.

If you're coming to town for a show at the Pabst Theater, you couldn't pick a better place to stay: The hotel is connected to the venue via the lobby, so patrons don't even need to step outside to see a show. On-site dining options include breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner at Kil@wat, home to "modern and well-executed" (OnMilwaukee) dishes, while the Clear bar serves coffee in the mornings and cocktails, wine and local beers later in the day.

We were disappointed with a couple things. Our room initially only had one towel and it was my husband and I staying there, so when we went to shower and realized this, we then had to wait 20 minutes for more towels to be brought up. Luckily, we weren’t in a big rush so the wait wasn’t a huge deal but had we been in for business or an event, it would have been a hassle. The checkout process was slow and the manager was not friendly. We noticed we had been automatically charged for parking (30/night), when we did not park onsite. It seemed odd that they would automatically add that to the bill without verifying with their guests first. They also did not have the correct rate for our stay (which was lower since we booked through Travelzoo) and tried to charge us full price (double what we were supposed to pay). Again, we luckily caught the error before handing over card, but it could easily have been missed. We never once got an apology for the mistakes from the manager and she almost acted as if we were inconveniencing her. Maybe she was having a bad morning, but it left us with a little bit of a bad taste in our mouth, and tarnished an overall, nice stay. I will say, every other staff member we interacted with was very friendly and helpful, so this is not a reflection of the whole staff, just the one encounter. The rooms are little dated (the wallpaper in our bathroom was starting to peel off) but it seems like they are in the beginning stages of renovating and perhaps that’s why they are offering the discounted rates. Other than minor cosmetic issues, our room was clean and comfortable. The location was great and we would stay here again.

Public areas were nice.

The room we booked was supposed to be an “executive king”. If the room we had was considered executive I’d hate to see what they consider standard. It was dark, cramped, dated, no mini fridge etc. We were supposed to have a choice of city or river view - weren’t offered a choice and the room looked out on the flat roof of the back section of the hotel. We stayed on a Sunday night - I’d have thought we could have had the best room in the house! Not at all what I expected from an Intercontinental Hotel. Just a tired old big city hotel - nothing special here.
