The Spyglass Inn is just north of Pismo Beach, right off the famed scenic curves of Highway 101. The hotel is set back from the bluffs overlooking Shell Beach, with awe-inspiring panoramas of both the sea and the mountains.
The dramatic view is what attracts most people to this classic California beach town, and each ocean-facing room has a private balcony or patio space to sit and take it all in. Pelicans, cormorants and seagulls are abundant here and can often be seen swooping and circling as they search for a tasty ocean snack.
The former motel is made up of a three-story main building and an attached two-story building that snakes around the curves of the natural landscape. The hotel was completely renovated to a contemporary beach look. Graphic patterned wallpapers in ocean blues and sandy browns cover the walls of the lobby and rooms, while natural wood eaves and beams add a rustic vibe.
Curl up by the large stone fireplace as you plan your day using the free Wi-Fi. Choose between a walk down to the beach, a visit to Dinosaur Caves Park for the kids to play, or a 10-minute drive to downtown Pismo where tourists and locals alike stroll through town.
If you don’t like the feel of sand between your toes, the hotel has a heated outdoor pool, perfect for cooling off. After taking a dip, grab lunch at the hotel’s California casual restaurant, open for three meals a day.
