This multi-storey luxury hotel certainly makes an impression from the outset, with its high ceilinged atrium, contemporary Oriental design and marble pillars. It’s near many of Beijing’s major attractions, including the 798 Art Zone – a collection of modern installations within former industrial spaces, with Maoist slogans on the walls. The beautiful Buddhist Yonghe Lama Temple is 4.4 km away, while the national stadium (also known as the Bird’s Nest) is 8.2 km from here.
They certainly take fitness seriously at the Crowne Plaza Sun Palace. A fully-equipped fitness centre has everything from volleyball, tennis and squash courts to yoga classes and personal trainers. A 25 metre indoor pool has hot and cold whirlpools. Then there’s the spa, with its body wrap and reflexology treatments. A trendy 4th floor restaurant serves up modern Yunnan regional cuisine in colourful surroundings, plus there’s an elegant piano lounge and sports bar.
Deluxe rooms are decked out in classic Oriental design and feature marble en-suite bathrooms, some with their own private whirlpool tubs and saunas. Of course, all the mod cons - huge flat-screen TV, cable channels, free WiFi, minibars - are a given. Upgraded rooms offer access to the club lounge and all its benefits. Among them, free breakfast, afternoon tea and evening cocktails. For all-out luxury, there’s the enormous Presidential Suite, complete with a crystal chandelier and two outdoor terraces.
