Overview

The family-run Caledon Guest House is in Cowes on the north of Isle of Wight, an island just off the south coast of Britain, near Southampton. Built in 1851, the Victorian property has been refurbished to a modern standard, yet retains many of its original features -- such as wooden floorboards, high ceilings and fireplaces.

From the guesthouse, it is a 3-minute walk up the hill from the seaside town of Cowes, which has shops, restaurants, lively pubs and an attractive yacht marina, making it a great base for exploring the island. Other nearby attractions include Osborne House -- a former royal country house that was previously the island home of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and is now open to the public – which is about 1.4 miles from the guesthouse. The Isle of Wight offers ample activities for sports and nature lovers, which the Caledon Guest House is happy to help facilitate for its guests. These include sailing, paragliding, sea kayaking and horse riding.

You can also explore the island's stretch of sandy beaches by walking or cycling along the island’s well-maintained Coastal Path, with over 500 miles of interconnected paths. The Coastal Path can be accessed via the Floating Bridge in Cowes, which is at the end of the road about half a mile down from the hotel. For less-vigorous touring, there's also a bus stop at the end of the road where you can get the number 1 bus into Newport. Near Newport, you will also find the quintessentially romantic Carisbrooke Castle with its hundreds of years of history, from Norman through to Elizabethan and Edwardian periods.

The B&B offers 10 rooms and sleeps up to 20 people. Its facilities include a restaurant serving full English breakfasts daily, all made with locally sourced ingredients where possible, and a lounge with a laptop available for guest use. All rooms in the hotel are smoke-free and have sea views, and include tea- and coffee-making facilities. There is also free Wi-Fi available throughout.
