Why We Love This Hotel
- On-site spa with a hamman, sauna & a range of luxury treatments
- A choice of restaurants, including the rooftop Premiere with Acropolis views
- Original contemporary artwork throughout
- A complimentary shuttle service to Syntagma Square
This deluxe InterContinental hotel has had its fair share of famous guests, among them Neil Armstrong, Sean Connery, Liza Minnelli and the Rolling Stones. The hotel is just to the south of the centre of Athens, and there's a regular, free shuttle service to Syntagma Square and back. Alternatively, the Parthenon is an 8-minute taxi ride away.
Dotted around the marble lobby and ample communal areas are original pieces of modern Greek art, including a quirky sculpture of a blue man. Minimalism and contemporary design prevail in all of the hotel's eateries too. Options include Mediterranean fine dining at the rooftop Premiere restaurant and modern Greek cuisine at the Toni Chi-designed Cafezoe. The arty Tobar, famed for its Martinis, has more of a retro feel, while the rooftop lounge bar is the place to go for Acropolis views and champagne cocktails.
A luxury spa is open daily from 10am-8pm and comprises seven treatment rooms (including a VIP couple's suite), a sauna, a hammam and a boutique. The fitness centre is open 24 hours a day, and you can also book the hotel’s personal trainer. Outside, the seasonal pool is surrounded by chic sunloungers.
Rooms have classic finishes and all feature marble bathrooms, satellite TVs, workspaces, coffee makers, mini bars and 24-hour room service. There's a fee for Wi-Fi, unless guests are IHG Club members or upgrade to the executive rooms or suites. Some of these add balconies and Club Lounge access, with complimentary buffet breakfast, dinner and lunch snacks, as well as drinks.
