Design Hotel Stadt Rosenheim
Why We Love This Hotel
- Stylish boutique hotel with individually designed rooms
- Unlimited free soft drinks available from reception
- Opposite Mȕnchen Ostbahnhof (Munich East) train station, with great city-wide transport links
The great-grandfather of the current owners of the Wilhelminian-style Design Hotel Stadt Rosenheim bought the building in 1895. After well over a century, the family have transformed it into a boutique hotel with an emphasis on uniquely designed rooms -- some are retro 1970s styles, some classic Bauhaus and others are ultra-modern.
The hotel is located only a few seconds' walk from Ostbahnhof (Munich East Railway Station) -- from here, you can travel directly to the airport, or catch the S-Bahn or U-Bahn to attractions across the city. Gasteig, a cultural and arts centre near the river, is a 17-minute walk away -- it hosts events and concerts, and is home to the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra.
From entering the hotel, the design plays on big, bold statements -- there is a huge spiral staircase with bright-orange carpets and lights hanging the length of all five floors. Most rooms have large-print floral wallpaper, life-size wire art on the walls and enormous mirrors. There is a small restaurant that serves breakfast (not included in the room), and the lobby serves free unlimited soft drinks throughout the day.
As the hotel is on a corner of two busy streets, some rooms on the lower floors at the front of the hotel can be a little noisy, but rooms on higher floors and looking onto the courtyard are quiet. All rooms are individually styled with designer furniture -- some with Eames chairs. All have free Wi-Fi, and there are complimentary newspapers in the lobby.
