ABode Chester is a sleek 4-star hotel with a 2-AA-Rosette restaurant run by Michael Caines. Built in 2009, the property is a circular, glass-fronted affair, right by the racecourse on the outskirts of Chester. Views reach as far as the Welsh hills.
The setting is excellent. It's within a 10-minute walk of the city's main sights, but far enough from noisy late-night revelry. Nearby attractions include Chester Cathedral and Chester Roman Amphitheatre, and both are free to visit. Chester Zoo is 15 minutes' drive from the hotel and Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, for discounted designer goods, is around 20 minutes away by car.
The fifth-floor restaurant is recommended by The Michelin Guide for "flavourful, artistic cooking".In addition to the main menu, there's also a grazing menu with smaller versions of each dish for more variety and a well-priced 3-course set menu. You can dine out on the terrace, where there are "stellar" racecourse views (The AA Restaurant Guide). The adjoining bar specialises in champagne cocktails and a large range of champagnes are available by the bottle or glass. The bar and grill on the ground floor provide a casual dining option. There's also a gym with Technogym equipment, and a beauty salon for massages, wraps and manicures.
The bedrooms have Welsh-slate bathrooms, free Wi-Fi, and double-glazed floor-to-ceiling windows, while some rooms have small balconies. Rooms in higher categories are larger and have with better views. Three FABulous Suites are on the sixth floor and have free regional treats in the mini bar.
