Ghyll Manor Hotel & Restaurant is a converted 17th-century timber-framed manor house in Rusper, a small village in West Sussex. It's set in over 40 acres of gardens with a private lake, a terrace with a dais and an old amphitheatre. Inside, vintage and contemporary features include original beams and modern furniture.

Rusper, in the district of Horsham, has a village shop, a park, public tennis courts and two pubs. There are many walking routes nearby, including the 150-mile Sussex Border Path, which runs along Rusper High Street. Nutbourne Vineyards, Arundel Castle and the National Trust's Wakehurst Place are all within 40 minutes' drive of the hotel.

Brighton, with its famous shopping area The Lanes, the Royal Pavilion and Victorian seafront, is around 40 minutes' drive away, and the cathedral city of Chichester is within an hour's drive.

Guests can have drinks and afternoon tea in the conservatory or the Terrace Room, which has a large patio overlooking the gardens. The AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant serves classic dishes such as tempura-battered king prawns and confit chicken leg.

There are 29 rooms, all with free Wi-Fi. Standard and Superior Rooms are in the modern Stable Mews in the grounds.

Note: the hotel is eight miles from Gatwick Airport, so there might be some aircraft noise.

The only blip was the bathroom where the shower was inaccessible for me as I am disabled.

the breakfast staff were invisible on our 1st day..no fried eggs . nothing filled up.had to ask constantly for things. no one to take yr room no or show you where to sit..we knew procedure having done it before. we made a complaint and did get some items knocked off the bill which was a very fair deal.. nice hotel and enormous room..2nd morning at breakfast a bit better but still no fried eggs or toast and again we had to ask

Very accommodating in all ways. Lovely garden to enjoy on warm summer evenings. Visited by hotel cat through our bedroom window. Found that quite amusing.
Other Comments
The shower is over the bath not allowing height for a person with height over six foot. Suggest moving the mirror of the bathroom door. Not the best watching yourself on the toilet. Few areas need touching up where some work has been done on the walls. Only minor but so easily corrected with a bit of filler and paint.

The grounds and gardens were beautiful but the hotel furnishings were a little tired, the windows were dirty. My bedroom carpet was stained!

We both enjoyed our visit to Ghyll Manor. The food was nice, breakfast was excellent. We would go back again on a similar offer.

Superb value for money - we loved it. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful whilst being professional and well presented. The venue is beautiful, especially for a 3* hotel, with such care and attention to the presentation of the hotel building, grounds and gardens, plus plentiful parking.

The restaurant was lovely, well decorated, lovely view of the gardens, busy but well managed and a great experience. Good menu options, food well presented, delicious and served hot. The breakfast buffet was well done and self-service. Our bedroom was spacious and the only part of the entire package that felt 3* as the room could really do with a revamp but, considering the incredible price of the deal, we felt it didn't tarnish the experience which was overall excellent.

Very enjoyable but forgot it was right next to Gatwick airport and the rooms have no double glazing so there's no sleeping after 6.0am. Better to visit in winter when you don't need the window open!

Highly recommended. Lots of aeroplanes flying overhead, but this was not a problem for us. We loved our stay there.
