Overview

Tregenna Castle Hotel was built in 1774, and is set in over 70 acres of gardens that overlook St Ives and the Atlantic. With an 18-hole par-3 golf course, tennis, squash and badminton courts, beauty treatment rooms, swimming pools, a brasserie restaurant and more, it's a destination in its own right.

The hotel is a 20-minute walk from the white-sand Porthminster Beach, as well as the seaside town of St Ives, which Lonely Planet describes as a "pretty jumble of slate roofs, church towers and turquoise bays". In the 1920s, St Ives was the epicentre of Cornwall's art scene, and today it is home to Tate St Ives -- number 36 on our list of 101 Things to do in Cornwall -- the Leach Pottery and the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

The South West Coast Path -- which leads to the Hayle Estuary or the picturesque Zennor village -- can be joined within 15 minutes' walk of the hotel. St Michael's Mount is a 20-minute drive away, and Land's End is 40 minutes away by car.

Castle Double Rooms at Tregenna Castle Hotel don't face the sea. Castle Sea View Double Rooms have views across the bay, and some have a sofa bed. You can also enjoy sea views from the Brasserie restaurant, which serves locally sourced seafood, as well as stone-baked pizzas and juicy British steaks.

The hotel is large, well maintained and in an lovely elevated position with panoramic views of St Ives and the ocean. The food, staff and amenities are all good. We played tennis and made use of the pool and sauna. We could walk through the hotel grounds to the town, and on to the beaches and coastal path - a real bonus at St Ives where parking is scarce. We would recommend this hotel and resort.

The gardens are beautiful, parking was good the staff very friendly. Unfortunately we forgot to bring swimming costumes or we would have availed ourselves of the pool. The special treat was the free tickets to Tate Modern and particularly Barbara Hepworth's studio.

Lovely hotel with a relaxing atmosphere. This hotel is a short although steep walk through pleasant wooded gardens down to Porthminster Beach, St Ives. We enjoyed our two days stay of exceptional value and will look forward to returning at the first opportunity.
Other Comments
This really is a nice hotel with good facilities and swimming pool. The hotel is spotlessly clean, well decorated and maintained with very attentive staff. On arrival, the reception staff were very welcoming and helpful during our stay.
