Along its 1150 miles of shoreline, the massive Lake of the Ozarks offers an encyclopedic amount of adventure. It's not just a great destination for water sports -- though you've got billions of gallons to contend with. The region also hosts golfers, hikers and boaters galore. With 27 holes of golf, an on-site marina and water park and 420 acres of forest, the Tan-Tar-A resort has plenty for everyone to do.

The resort sits right on the banks of the lake, and its marina rents out water skis, paddleboats, pontoons and WaveRunners. The lake itself -- recently named America's best recreational lake by USA Today's 10Best -- wanders hundreds of miles through the hilly Ozarks and makes up a large portion of Missouri's largest state park, located just 20 minutes from the resort.

There's also an on-site indoor water park with a lazy river and waterslides open all seasons (weekends only September-May; additional admisson required) and kids will also love the on-site bowling alley and arcade. Elsewhere, the resort has 27 holes of golf: a nine-hole course aimed at beginners and a top-rated 18-hole championship challenger.

In 2014, the resort renovated the lobby, importing 30 tons of locally quarried stone to create the crackling fireplace, and revamped the lobby lounge, which serves coffee and pastries in the glow of big screens showing the game. One of the resort's eight dining options resembles a hunting lodge, while another overlooks the marina. Rooms are simple and clean in earth tones, and some offer views of the lake.

The beds were huge and comfortable. The bathroom upgrades are better than they have been in the past.

The first room we were put in had a gap at the top of the door that was about an inch and a half. The second room we were moved to was better. There were flies in the room which was weird. There was also no full length mirror in the room.

The resort is showing its age. Changing to a Margheritaville. Hopefully the property gets renovated. Jet ski rental was $90 per hr, boat rental would be more applicable for a group.

Lousy one cup coffee maker which scolded my hand! Guest service people were surley and appeared to be put out when asked for help. Marina ental was a dissapointment. Need an attorney to go over contract and why would you charge double for a late return? Also boat was a gas guzzler I spent $ 76.00 in fuel for 90 minutes of operation.
