Renaissance New York Hotel 57

Travelzoo Staff

Why We Love It

  • Two blocks from the Bloomingdale's flagship store and three blocks from Fifth Avenue's big shops
  • Guest rooms have marble bathrooms and are consistently noted for how quiet they are, though they are snug and a little dated
  • Midtown East caters to a business crowd, with glitzy big-ticket restaurants, while the Upper East Side has lots of cozy, local spots along Second and Third Avenues
  • Five blocks from Central Park and about 10 blocks from Rockefeller Center

The Renaissance New York Hotel 57 straddles two neighborhoods: business-oriented, bustling Midtown and the genteel, quiet and moneyed Upper East Side.

Guest rooms are on the smaller side and the furniture has style but is slightly dated, however previous guests consistently praise the comfortable beds and how quiet the rooms are considering the busy street below. Many rooms feature views of the Midtown Manhattan area.

Within walking distance, guests will find many recognizable sights: the Bloomingdale's flagship department store, Central Park and Rockefeller Center are all within 10 blocks, as are several subway stations for quick whisks downtown toward more affordable and local-friendly dining options.

Super clean, great location.

Staying at the hotel was great. The only issue I had with them was the length of time it took to get reimbursed for 2 rooms I had cancelled way ahead of the cancellation deadline. Their accounting office wouldn't do anything until my credit card company got involved. Rooms were finally reimbursed.

The property is in the midst of--and in desperate need of --a renovation. Rooms were shabby and everything only "kind of" worked. But it was clean and otherwise comfortable

Centrally located for restaurants and shopping

Extremely friendly and helpful front desk and bell hop. Parking was more expensive than other hotels I have stayed at in NY.

The staff was extremely accommodating and friendly. The rooms are a bit dated but large for NYC standards. It was unfortunate that the restaurant was closed for renovations as there was limited options/ space for drinks and food.

Although it was located on the East side, it was close to 5th and Central Park

I paid for a king with free wifi. I was told upon check in "there is no way you booked a king and wifi would cost $17-19. I was given a queen. There was also burning scented candles which was overpowering in both lobbies.

The location with easy walking distance to restaurants, the subway, attractions

I booked a superior king room for the 2 nights. We were given a superior queen room, and when I asked the desk person why, he asked first if I had booked through a third party, and when I replied yes, he said it was not possible to book a king room. ( There were 3 king rooms down the hall from our room. ). When I asked again, that I could t book a king room, he repeated that that was the case, that the date I got was for a queen room, and that they had given me a corner room which was slightly larger than the standard. The room itself was comfortable and clean, although slightly dated. The lobby is small, the restaurant was closed for renovations. Some of the staff were friend,y and helpful, others not so much. I won't be returning. And if I use Travelzoo again, I will be sure to co tact the hotel directly to make sure I am getting what is promised.

Should have noted on advertisement that restaurant is closed and rooftop terrace. Disappointing that we could not get breakfast.
