"We have stayed here previously on a Travelzoo deal & found it to be great value for money , comfortable rooms, excellent food & service however on this occasion we were disappointed on one point . The deal included a gin cocktail on arrival ,nowhere in the Travelzoo description of the offer did it specify this must be taken by 5.30pm . We arrived at 6pm & was advised by the receptionist "we should have taken the gin offer by 5.30 pm but not to worry ,we should tell the barman it had been authorised by the receptionist" & he noted the drinks vouchers with his name as proof. On arrival at the bar we offered the vouchers to the barman who very rudely & loudly for all to hear told us in no uncertain terms that we could'nt have the drinks ,we were too late & the receptionist had no authority to do what he'd done ! We explained that it was ok if we couldn't have them but his dispute was with his colleague & not us ! This episode tainted our evening as his behaviour embarrassed us in front of other guests in the bar. On previous deals at this hotel ,a glass of prosecco has been included & it has been offered to be taken at any time during your stay . In future if these drinks are to be offered it should be clarified in the advert that there is a specific time frame to take it so as not to embarrass guests."

Overview

Hunday Manor Country House Hotel is a 4-star property on the western edge of the Lake District. The 18th-century manor is set in spacious grounds, and offers "warm hospitality" and "wonderful views", says The AA.

For a coastal trip, the harbour town of Whitehaven is less than 10 minutes' drive away. It's home to over 250 listed buildings, a working harbour and a museum, The Rum Story, that tells the history of the UK's rum trade. The Lake District National Park is 15 minutes' drive away and the towns of Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick are all within 50 minutes' drive.

There's lots to do while staying at the hotel -- you can visit The Lakes Distillery at Bassenthwaite, 20 minutes' drive away, or walk along the St Bees Head Heritage Coast, which is approximately 25 minutes' drive from the hotel. The AA-recommended Whinlatter Forest Park, a designated red squirrel reserve, is 30 minutes' drive from the hotel.

Hunday Manor is an intimate family-run hotel with 27 individually decorated rooms. The restaurant serves set-menu and à la carte meals in the evening. and there's also a cosy lounge and bar, complete with log fires, where you can relax after a day of walking or an indulgent dinner.

It was a new experience staying in the North-west coastal part of Cumbria, from what we are used to. it was a lovely, well-kept Country Hotel with a lovely view looking over the Solway. The bedroom was small but beautifully presented and very clean, with all the usual stuff, but also had its own iron/ironing board and even had earl grey tea which my normal tea drink but is unusual in a hotel room. it has beautiful gardens to sit out and enjoy the view and delicious table-served food.
