"Our stay here was very enjoyable. The only downside was our bedroom which was I think in the attic and was very awkward in that there were beams in the bathroom across the bath which was also a shower but this was an on the wall shower handheld which was very awk2ard to use as could not stand up because of the slanted beam across the bath. There was also another one of these beams one side of the bed which you had to remember was there if you needed to visit the loo in the night. ThT just took the edge of the stay a bit as the rest of the hotel was lovely. Food and dining etc was very good plenty to eat at breakfast and choices. Set in massive grounds which was nice for a stroll."

Overview

New Park Manor, a family-friendly retreat in the New Forest, is said to have been Charles II's favourite hunting lodge. The property is now a "tasteful" (The Daily Telegraph) boutique hotel, offering fine dining and a sumptuous spa.

The hotel's natural surroundings are great for outdoor activities -- from clay-pigeon shooting, archery, horse riding and climbing trees in the extensive grounds, to watersports and beach walks a short drive away.

The Spa has a 16-metre indoor pool, a steam room, a sauna, a hydrotherapy pool, power jets and a hot tub with views of the grounds. The Daily Telegraph praises the spa as "one of the finest examples" of a luxury spa.

The Stag restaurant offers fine dining, while the informal Vinery restaurant caters for all with child-friendly menus.

The hotel's 25 bedrooms are kitted out with plush furnishings, and some have original period features and parkland views. There are plenty of places to relax, including the cosy lounge (with an open fire in winter), a snug room and a cinema room. There is also a crèche.

Everything else was good. Evening meal (adult only) was excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Accommodation comfortable.

We weren’t aware that it is recommended as a ‘family friendly’ hotel. Very noisy at breakfast with families and young children. Not good for couples without children. Separate dining areas would make all the difference.

We had a very good time at New Park Manor. The quality of service was excellent, the food lovely and the spa facilities were outstanding. The room was comfortable, clean and had a lovely view. My one issue was that although we were informed it was a small double (this was not a problem in itself) we did not know that it was at the very top of the building with many stairs to climb and under the eves. this meant that my husband (who at 64 is none to mobile) had to crawl across the bed to get to his side and was unable to sit up or he banged his head on the sloping ceiling. I appreciate that quiet often when using discounted vouchers you are only entitled to the minimum standard of accommodation but I think it would have been useful to know on this occasion just how small the room was. It also meant that you had to be careful using the toilet or again you banged your head and although the bath room was lovely you had to sit in the bath to use the shower (which you had to hold, it was not attached to the wall) Having said all that we were able to see the funny side, but if someone with mobility/walking issues was to book this I think they would find the accommodation challenging.

Overall the hotel was good giving us a neutral experience and we had a few niggles which we felt let down our overall experience. The Travelzoo deal was excellent value for money and in some respects we tolerated the negatives. However, we would not pay higher prices to stay at New Park Manor in the future. The hotel has excellent facilities but is let down by staff who are willing but do not seem co-ordinated, managed or monitored in their delivery of service to clients.

On arrival reception staff had a good manner with clients. The hotel is has gone out of its way to be attractive to young children and we congratulate whoever was responsible for designing the 'child friendly' surroundings. The main guest reception entrance seems to be the only access into the hotel? Whilst we were in reception an electrical contractor carrying out work was coming in and out with tools, followed by a goods delivery of 6 boxes on a sack trolley. I held the doors open for the chap, the reception staff seemed unaware of the the potential safety risk to guests with children. We stayed in Cedar room which was fairly large and comfortable with a king size bed and a T.V in the shower! During the evening we were annoyed by intermittent loud footfall noises from guests with children in the room above, as if it was a hard floor? We booked dinner for 7.00 pm so we could watch World Cup football at 8 pm. We were first in the dining room with other guests joining us at 7.10. We waited 45 minutes from the time we gave our order, until our first main course food dish from the set menu arrived on our table. We thought that was poor service, but sometimes things go wrong? At breakfast next morning we avoided the rather basic cold buffet selection in favour of cooked breakfasts. Coffee arrived but the waitress didn't take our food order, whilst other dining room staff were cleaning tables and some kind of staff gathering was a welcome group outside the restaurant. We waited and waited for our hot food order to be taken, then had to get up and ask. We finished our breakfast with a danish pastry from the basket, turned it over only to find the pastry hard and burned underneath! Who was responsible for preparing/heating the pastries and checking they were in good condition for guests? We started to see common problems of management running through the delivery of services which we felt were mainly responsible for our poor experience. More than one staff member is involved in table service and there seems to be no one person responsible for overseeing the smooth co-ordination of individual service functions. At dinner we were attended by 3-4 different members of staff for only several tables, with it seems, no single member of staff joining everything together. Breakfast was a similar experience - plenty of people all doing different tasks, but nobody supervising service to ensure guest experience was a consistent high standard from door welcome to leaving the table. Management need to consider closer monitoring of tasks. Writing down the time a guest gives their order at table and the time they are served the last dish would be a start to measure what's going on, setting targets and improving service. When we checked out of the hotel we were not asked about our stay and to give feedback.

The setting was great, the room was on the small side and had no fixed shower. There was also a three story climb to the room. Food was first class as was the service. Breakfast on the first morning was as if we were in a creche with many very young children. The staff clearly responded to complaints on this point and we were served in the restaurant the next day.
Other Comments
It would appear that the hotel has built up a large client base of young families with two to three year old children which could be off putting.
