Tucked away inside Banff National Park, which Frommer's calls “one of the most gorgeous places on earth,” is Tunnel Mountain Resort, offering panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies. The dramatic landscape that surrounds this resort is home to recreational activities all year long, such as hiking, biking, golfing and kayaking in the warmer months and skiing, snowboarding, dog sledding and heliskiing in the winter. It’s likely you’ll spot wildlife like herds of elk, a deer and her fawn, a family of mountain goats.
Suites are individually decorated, many with wood-paneled walls and rustic wood furniture. Each features a kitchen with fridge and microwave, wood-burning or gas fireplace, and most have a stove and oven as well as a sitting area. Mountain views can be enjoyed from the private balcony or patio. The resort offers outdoor barbecue facilities and grocery delivery (for a fee).
Other on-site amenities include an indoor pool, two hot tubs, fitness center, sauna and a children’s playground. Free Wi-Fi, parking and local calls are included. The concierge desk can help arrange various excursions such as a tour of Rat’s Nest Cave or a gondola ride, where you’ll get views of the six surrounding mountain ranges.
