Overview

Midtown Manhattan is bustling with business folks, tourists, delivery boys and shoppers. The Shoreham aims to leave that hubbub behind with a muted, minimal ambiance to decompress after sightseeing. The lobby is retro-futuristic with marble tiled floors, translucent glass walls, white leather seating and shag carpeting. Bits of lime green appear in the leather chairs, potted orchids and snake plants that dot the halls.

Rooms are spare and clean, illuminated by soft recessed lighting and equipped with Bose radios and pillowtop mattresses. Select rooms and suites have big, huggy leather "iJoy" massage chairs.

The two blocks around the hotel are particularly well fed, with French, Italian, Greek, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian and organic cuisines all represented in cozy restaurants that sit side by side. The Museum of Modern Art is right around the corner, and Fifth Avenue shopping is at the end of the street. All these businesses mean there can be a lot of traffic outside the hotel. Light sleepers should request rooms on a higher floor, but for the "real" New York experience, ask for a room facing the street.

From the press:
  • "Most people don't think of Midtown Manhattan as a place to chill out -- but don't tell the Shoreham, a 177-room hotel that resembles a chic spa retreat" -- Travel + Leisure

The included breakfast was reasonably good. Good location to shopping and museums.
Other Comments
In general, the room was not in good repair. The carpet was stained, the window treatment frayed, the window was taped into frame, smoke detector taped to ceiling, shower floor dirty with parts that needed replacing, phone did not work, and the top sheet on the bed was actually short-sheeted when I got in. I couldn't make these things up, it was so disappointing. I have photos if you would like them. They also had no vending machines installed. Ice machine in lobby.

Very quiet. Nice personnel at the desk and at the restaurant. The location was great.
Other Comments
Our room size was ok but the bathroom could barely fit one person. There was a tiny utility sink but no place to put personal travel items and cosmetics.

The first room smelled or urine and was about 90 degrees. Second room was better but unable to use their wifi. They blamed it on increased security by apple and the tv had lines going through it so we were unable to watch a movie.

Staffs were very friendly and helpful. Especially the technical guy who came to fix the room heater and the server in the breakfast room were both very nice.
Other Comments
As the window and the heater in the room was quite old (everything else was updated in the room), cold air was coming in from outside and it was hard to adjust the room temperature. The breakfast room was quite sad. I wish i had more healthier choice for breakfast.

We were 2 blocks from Central Park. Walking distance to Rockafeller Center, Times Square and great restaurants. Small room and bathroom but expected with NYC rent.
