Prince Edward Island's provincial parks reward outdoorsy types in spades with their broad offerings of adventurous activities and family fun. The Rodd Brudenell River Resort borders the namesake provincial park, which is one of the largest on the island's east side. It cozies around the shores of the Brudenell River, which guests can explore by kayak or canoe, or from the decks of a boat moored at the on-site marina.

Golfers will find plenty of greens to swat around on as there are two 18-hole golf courses neighbouring the resort, each offering emerald fairways that unfurl among ponds and gardens. The resort also offers horseback riding, lawn bowling and tennis (based on seasonality). If the river is too bracing, dip in the heated indoor and outdoor pools, then unwind with a massage or body wrap that incorporates Aveda products. All rooms have free Wi-Fi, and many have a private balcony with views of the pool or the river. Kids 10 and under eat free from May-October.

I booked through Travelzoo, but they never mentioned any of the credits and discounts I had a right to until I realized it myself and told them about it. So I would advise Travelzoo to make sure everyone knows about the deals they give.

My husband really enjoyed the golf course. We enjoyed the fact that there are two restaurants on site so it's easy. I enjoyed the balconies in the room because you can sit outside.

Originally I called ahead to get a walk-in rate; which I was told was $103. When we arrived we were told it was $144. I asked if they could do anything - and they directed me to a TELEPHONE to call the reservations people. THE FRONT DESK AGENT could not do anything for me. Eventually I was told about Travel Zoo, which worked out... but it blew my mind that the Front Desk agent referred me to a TELEPHONE. I was extremely frustrated that the person standing in front of me was NO HELP. I literally booked our room on Travel Zoo IN FRONT OF THE FRONT DESK AGENT ... while still ON HOLD with the "reservation team". My husband was extremely disappointed with his golf experience. In the morning we tried calling the front desk; with no answer and had to go find SOMEONE to open the door to the pool at 10am... when it opened at 8am. Also - booking with TravelZoo included a $25 gift card; which luckily I recalled the next morning. When we checked in there was NO MENTION of this gift card and we had to go back to the front desk to get it. This was the BY FAR most painful hotel experience I have ever had; and I travel frequently with work. It is no wonder Air bnb is so popular. I will be telling all my friends and family what a waste of time this hotel is.
