The experience was excellent. Staff were very friendly. Very close to many attractions. Easy access to transportation. Overall clean rooms and very well kept.

The bathroom was neat and clean, however the shower/ water pressure was lacking. Had to take longer showers due to the lack of waters.

Staff especially Katherine at front desk is amazing. Friendly, knowledgable and helpful. She is the reason that I have stayed at Hotel Spero more than one trip.

We were in SF for some weekend fun! We loved how close Hotel Spero was to transportation hubs on Market St & the 12-noon checkout. Staff were very friendly & helpful, and everything was quite clean. We appriciated the included breakfast, however it was quite underwhelming. (like a reheated frozen waffle with a few berries and a cup of Folgers?) Also, the bed & pillows were fine, but the mattress protector was incredibly stiff and loud, crunching everytime we moved. That said, it was a nice hotel for the price!

The hotel had so much history and charm. While putting in new carpet in the lobby, they discovered the floors were marble installed in 1927. The hand carved ceiling from 1923 was absolutely gorgeous . The pictures of the hotel on the Travelzoo does not do it justice. I love these lovely, unique hotels. The location was convenient. Walked most places. Even took a driverless ride on Waymo!

Very relaxing 2-say getaway. Enjoyed the hotel & staff esp bar/restaurant. Convenient walk to local attractions.

While the room was a bit smaller than expected, the housekeeping was great and timely. The hot breakfast was good and wait staff was very polite. We had a problem with the TV remote, but service replaced it very quickly. The coffee, tea and water service in the lobby was a nice feature, as was sitting in the lobby.

We used BART to get into SanFrancisco. The hotel was convenient to the Powel Street station. Staff was very friendly. We enjoyed Jaspers for breakfast and had a meal in the evening which was great. The rooms are very clean and nice. Comfy beds. The hotel is only a couple of blocks from the Tenderloin district, which was a little worrying. We went to a show at the Golden Gate theater, which was close to the hotel but right in the Tenderloin. So we encountered lots of homeless people, which was sad. The hotel was great for Union Square and the areas surrounding. Easy public transportation to other areas.

We really liked the hotel and room, and would stay here again.

Historical boutique hotel. Decor and atmosphere was charming. Friendly, helpful, professional staff. Convenient location close to public transportation.

Enjoyed the hotel and the staff was terrific. Our room was very comfortable, even though the bathroom was rather small. The view from the room of the SF skyline was very nice, and the room was very quiet. The Travelzoo "extras" were very nice to have and we enjoyed the hotel restaurant.

The staff was very obliging. The rooms were very clean. The hotel lobby was appealing. The coffee & tea in the morning was very good quality and very welcomed. Great location with lots of restaurants and sites within walking distance. I felt safe in the neighborhood. The staff went above and beyond to accommodate my special requests without hesitation.

Right in the Union Square/Tenderloin hub of the city. Great location to stay if you're going to shows at many of the surrounding venues (Warfield, Golden Gate, August Hall). Lots of local character, almost too many options for interesting ethnic foods. Spero has a pretty lobby and the room was comfy. Attached restaurant (Jasper's) was ok, worked out for lunch option. The parking building about 50' north was a decent option if you want to ditch your car, it was $50 for overnight and they park it for you.

The rooms were comfortable, showers had lots of hot water and great pressure. The hotel is very pretty, quick walk to union square. We felt safe in the neighborhood. Breakfast was good and came quick.

Beds no great but otherwise good

Everything went smoothly from check in to check out. Lots of self park garages in the area and walking distance to Union Square.

Only miss was that the pillows were a little too thick for us so we might bring our own next time but this is an easy fix.

Centrally located hotel. Front desk staff was great. The rooms were surprisingly pretty soundproof.

The staff were wonderful, the breakfast in the hotel restaurant was wonderful too and the hotel had been refurbished in a lovely decor. The only bad thing was location.

Location was TERRIBLE. we did not feel safe to walk anywhere from our hotel due to homelessness in that area. The hotel location stated union square, but it was mostly tenderloin district and very sketchy. The hotel hired 24/7 guards outside paroling.

We really loved this Hotel. It is centrally located to many places. The room was comfortable and QUITE! The restaurant down stairs was yummy and affordable. One thing to know, if you don't like any light (like my hubby) bring a large sticky note to put on the thermostat screen. I would highly recommend this Hotel.

Staff didn’t even say hello or tell us our room number when we were checking in. Everything was just a little bit off. We stayed for my birthday and quite frankly it ruined it.

This was a great hotel. The staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast was exceptional. The restaurant staff went out of their way to accommodate us and were very gracious with us.

Everything was great from check in to check out. Staff was very friendly and professional. Room was clean and well appointed. Jasper's is a great restaurant with good food and good service. My only complaint is the breakfast voucher. On website and booking, it says a "$35 value." However, the vouchers received indicated only 3 meal options. So although we spent less than $35, we still had to pay for breakfast items.

Check in was easy , Hotel rooms are clean and big. The location is on the edge of the tenderloin district , so keep that in mind . Not the best neighbourhood at night .

We really enjoyed the hotel room itself and the tasteful decor of the hotel. The rooms are quite small but clean and comfortable. The location is convenient but also not ideal as far as what's immediately around the hotel. Area is a bit run down and many disadvantaged folks living on the streets around this area. Unfortunately, there was also quite a bit of noise and disruption during our stay because of a strike/picket line happening at an adjacent hotel. Although this impacted our stay, I would expect that it is a short term issue out of the control of Hotel Spero - although it would have been nice to have been forewarned since it had been going on for several weeks before we arrived. We ate in the hotel restaurant for breakfast only because it was included with our booking. Otherwise, there were preferable options within walking distance. Good value overall for the rate we paid.

Overall pleasing experience

Thw hotel smelled good as we walked in. Unexpexted from an old buolding. We were greeted warmly by the front staff. Super friendly and helpful. The free breakfast and flight of beer was a HUGE plus. Breakfast options were great too. Rooms are very nicely designed and very clean. Thanks for such a great experience.

Traveled all the way to Frisco to find out that my trip was canceled. They did not have a room to accommodate me for my suite very disappointed, but they said it was Travelzoo that council debt so disappointed tried to call couldn’t get through through Travelzoo.!!

Good value for the money overall, the room was tidy, but not overly clean - there were some used towels left over in our tub we had to move to the side and drink rings on the side tables. We seemed to be on the quieter side of the building with other guests sharing in passing they were dealing with noise from some protesters down the block. The parkade they recommend next door has flawless service but it was certainly pricey. The restaurant staff were friendly and attentive, but the food quality was rather bland for the included breakfast options.

Hotel Spero is an older building, but well maintained. Rooms are small but updated and very clean. I used a Travelzoo deal that included a $35 breakfast voucher for each guest for each day, but when I received my vouchers, the breakfast options were limited to three choices on the menu all about $17.

Also, there's an ongoing strike across the street at the Hilton Hotel, and although our rooms were on the 11th and 12th floor, the loud sounds (drumming and megaphones) from the strikers from 6 am to 11 pm could be heard, preventing us from getting enough sleep.
