This winter, take in the stunning scenery, great wine and gourmet cuisine of the Amalfi Coast before jaunting off to Rome on a weeklong vacation for $1399 per person.

All rooms at the Hotel Gardenia have a private balcony for taking in views of Sorrento, which Frommer's lauds for its "charming cobblestone streets, alluring seafront promenade, colorful and fragrant flowers, matchless vistas, and lively cultural scene." The famed town of Positano, ancient archeological site of Pompeii and island of Capri are within 20 miles of the hotel.

For $150 more per person, make it a nine-night trip and spend an extra night each in Sorrento and outside Rome with extended car rental.
