Dartington Hall is set around a medieval courtyard in 1200 acres of landscaped gardens that made the The Daily Telegraph's 50 Best Homes and Gardens list.
The hotel has hosted the Ways With Words literature festival over the years, which has seen the likes of Michael Palin and Harry Hill attend. There are two cafes and a dining hall, with flagstone floors and roughcast walls, serving local produce from the estate. All bedrooms were refurbished at the end of 2011 and the renovated Barn Cinema shows films each night, from modern releases to arthouse classics.
The River Dart, which flows into the English Channel, runs adjacent to the hotel and the beaches and cliffs of Torbay are five miles away.
