A 2-night stay at an award-winning Lake District property is now £129 per person. This deal from Rothay Manor Hotel at the northern tip of Lake Windermere saves up to 40% on the usual rate and includes a bundle of extras.
You can stay between Sunday and Friday between 17 January-28 February; or 1-27 March for an extra £10 per person. Saturday stays are an extra £10 per person. Not available on 14-15 February, 2-6 March.
The Regency-style country house hotel sits on the outskirts of the village of Ambleside, in the heart of the Lake District, and is a 10-minute walk from Lake Windermere. Local attractions include Zeffirellis, an independent cinema and jazz bar, and Stock Ghyll Force, a 70-foot waterfall that once powered 12 local watermills.
Built in 1823, the hotel has been owned and operated by the Nixon family for 46 years and is described by The Guardian as "the sort of house Jane Austen might have had in mind when writing about the elegant families of the pre-Victorian era".
Meals are served downstairs in the AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant, overlooking the gardens. Rothay Manor has been listed in the The Good Hotel Guide for 35 years, one of only four hotels to be listed every year since the guide was published -- an accomplishment for which it was recently awarded a Gold Award. Dinner includes canapés, homemade bread, coffee and petit fours. On the sample menu, we're tempted by the pheasant roasted with vegetables and white wine, or the Herdwick fell-bred lamb shank marinated in tomato and mint.
Upgrade to a Superior Room for a supplement of £15 per person, or a Suite for a supplement of £30.
Travelzoo tip: Rydal Mount -- the home of William Wordsworth from 1813 until his death in 1850 -- is an 8-minute drive from the hotel.
