When in Venice, do as the locals do, says The Daily Telegraph -- escape the hectic crowds of the city and explore the waterways and lagoon instead. For £229 per person, this deal takes you to little Murano island, a short boat ride from central Venice, and puts you in a boutique hotel overlooking a Venetian canal.
At £200 less than usual, the package includes return flights, three nights at the luxurious LaGare Hotel Venezia in a Superior room, daily breakfast and a free welcome drink.
Condé Nast Traveller calls LaGare a "grand waterside lantern", with its "wondrous" lighting designed by renowned Murano glass artist Venini. Set in a 13th-century former monastery that was repurposed as a glass-making workshop in the 1800s, the hotel has a permanent exhibition showcasing the island's famous glass work. As well as a fine-dining restaurant looking out over a Venetian courtyard, there's an American-style bar, a drinks terrace, a library and free Wi-Fi throughout.
In the morning, watch as local fishermen and farmers set up a floating market on the Grand Canal, and by evening explore the island's winding waterways and many glass studios. The hotel offers a free shuttle service to St Mark's Square, which is 15 minutes away by boat.
