It's well known as the birthplace of port, but historic Porto and the Douro Valley is also home to long, sandy beaches, Roman ruins, UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a top foodie scene. Explore this unspoilt region from a 5-star hotel for £349 per person -- that's half the usual price.
This treat-filled package from Fleetway Travel includes return flights, three nights at the luxury Casa da Calçada hotel -- a Relais & Châteaux property -- in an Executive Room, daily breakfast and a welcome drink.
The boutique hotel is in the town of Amarante, between Porto and the remote Douro Valley, where port wine is produced. Built in the 16th century, the former manor house has a Michelin-starred restaurant, a bar overlooking the Casa da Calçada vineyards and two swimming pools with views of the River Tâmega. There's also free Wi-Fi and the hotel has excellent reviews on TripAdvisor.
You can hire a bike to explore Amarante and the surrounding gardens and farm. The Daily Telegraph describes a trip to Porto as "the perfect break" -- wander the cobbled streets in the city centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and don't miss a trip to the Alto Douro wine region, where grapes are still crushed by foot.
Fly from Liverpool on 1, 22 August.
Transfers aren't included, but Fleetway Travel is offering car hire for the special rate of £20 per day, or private transfers from £50 per person, return. Checked luggage is from an extra £35 per person.
