Once home to the English textile designer, artist, writer and libertarian socialist William Morris, Kelmscott Manor in Oxfordshire is a Grade I-listed farmhouse built from limestone in around 1600. The idyllic country house was William Morris' summer home from 1871, when he signed a joint lease with Pre-Raphaelite painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti. The house still contains many works by Morris -- and by Rosetti -- including furniture, original textiles, pictures, carpets, ceramics and metalwork.

Very interesting glimpse into the life of an iconic figure.

The house is a must for all who are interested in William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement. There is do much there. The village too is beautiful and unspoilt by modern life.

The staff and volunteers were extraordinarily well informed and passionate about their role Nothing was too much for them and they were able tanswer all our series no matter how obtuse.Cannot praise this venue highly enouth. We travelled from London and it IS possible ,even if somewhat challenging, to visit by public transport.

The friendly welcome and enthusiasm of the volunteers!

We enjoyed the relaxed manner in which the volunteers told us about the history of the place. Also enjoyed the hot potato ploughmans and later the bread pudding afternoon tea. A superb relaxing day out in the cotswolds..

The pub in the village is worth a pint or two, if your're not driving of course.
