The Deal

This Victorian, Tudor-style country house once owned by rock legend Ian Gillan from Deep Purple, has put together an overnight package including breakfast, dinner in an AA-Rosette-awarded restaurant and a free room upgrade for 42% less than usual.

For £95 per night, based on two people sharing, this deal at The Springs Hotel & Golf Club includes:

Praised for its "romantic" restaurant and "supremely comfortable" beds by The Daily Telegraph and set in 133 acres of manicured grounds, the hotel is a short drive from the market towns of Wallingford, Dorchester and Abingdon, and less than a 33-minute drive from Henley-on-Thames and Oxford. Among the guests that have stayed at the hotel over the years are King Edward VIII and Meryl Streep, and it's thought that the hotel is haunted by English opera singer Dame Clara Butt. Oak paneling, wooden beams and stone fireplaces add to the period charm and there is a guitar-shaped swimming pool, a spring-fed lake, a spa, a sauna and a golf course designed by former pro, Brian Huggett.

The AA-Rosette Lakeside Restaurant overlooks the spring-fed lake and serves up dishes such as wild mushroom risotto with parmesan and truffle oil, honey-roasted duck breast with fondant potato and pecan tart with vanilla ice cream.
