To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Thackeray's, two Travelzoo subscribers are invited to savour a memorable 7-course tasting menu for two with bubbly at this 3-AA-Rosette-awarded, Grade II-listed property, run by Michelin-starred chef Richard Phillips, for £89 instead of £158.50.
Served with a glass of award-winning Nyetimber Classic Cuvée sparkling wine, the tasting menu incorporates French flavours with a modern twist. For example:
- Amuse-bouches
- Ballotine of foie gras with almond and vanilla purée, amaretto jelly, duck leg confit and almond brioche
- Pan-fried diver-caught scallops with new season peas, prosciutto ham and Kentish buttermilk, or roast fillet of South Coast brill with haddock brandade and cockle and cucumber ketchup
- Sorbet
- Roast fillet of 28-day hung Herefordshire beef with roast onion purée, black truffle, smoked bacon terrine and wine jus, or pan-fried fillets of John Dory with lobster ravioli, cauliflower-dressed calamari and wilted black cabbage
- Brie cheese from Seine-et-Marne, layered with sliced black truffle
- Kentish raspberry soufflé or assiette of chocolate
- Coffee and petits fours
Alternatively, gather a group of four friends or family and take advantage of the same deal for £169, regularly £317.
Richard Phillips, who trained at London's famous Savoy Hotel and with the Roux brothers at Le Gavroche, before becoming head chef for Marco Pierre White, has gained phenomenal praise for growing Thackeray's into one of the best restaurants in Kent over the last decade.
The award-winning restaurant was crowned Kent's Best Gourmet Restaurant in 2009. The Independent on Sunday has described it as "one of the most charming and stimulating restaurants outside London", while The Observer praises its "culinary excellence".
Richard is a familiar face on top foodie TV shows, such as "Ready Steady Cook" and "Saturday Kitchen", and is a regular on ITV's "Lorraine".
When we visited we were impressed by the beautifully presented dishes, attentive service and the building's 18th century character.
