Where to Stay in Valletta?
If you want to be close to the capital's historic sites and cultural attractions, there are several hotels dotted around central Valletta. Hotels offering stunning views of the harbour below join further accommodation choices closer to the waterfront itself. If you can be flexible with dates and can avoid school holidays, it is often possible to find cheap hotel deals in Valletta. Malta itself is a small island and many visitors chose to base themselves outside of the city and make daytrips to Valletta. Silema, St Julian’s and Paceville are popular seaside resorts not far from the city. Silema is considered one of the island’s best shopping areas and it also has numerous restaurants, cafes, bars and upmarket hotels. St Julian’s is a busy resort which also offers numerous places to stay, eat and drink. Valletta Accommodation Options
Valletta is a small harbour city, but it offers visitors a range of places to stay, from 5-star Art Deco hotels and luxurious lodgings with outdoor pools, to centrally-located hostels and Maltese townhouse hotels. Beyond the city, much of the accommodation in the coastal resorts is geared towards the package holiday market, and there are numerous self-catering apartments and hotels. These can offer good value for money, but there are also plenty of cheap hotel deals for the independent traveller. It is possible to rent luxurious villas, some in stunning rural locations with sea views. Other apartments and townhouses are situated in attractive villages and towns. These are a good option for families and those wishing to explore the island.

The 5-star Phoenicia Hotel Malta is an elegant Art Deco establishment within the city gates. It has idyllic gardens and harbour views. Further luxury can be found at the Excelsior Grand Hotel which has five restaurants, four bars, a spa and a private 30-berth marina. The Castille Hotel is a 3-star hotel situated in a former palace in central Valletta. It has two restaurants and an open-air dining area with city views. For visitors on a budget, the Asti Pensione is an eight-room, family-run guesthouse.
Transport in Valletta
Malta's International Airport is approximately 10km from Valletta. There are several car hire companies at the airport and also regular bus services to Valletta. Taxis to the city cost around €16. Malta’s bus service connects the island's resorts and towns. Valletta's bus station is outside the main city gate.
