Where to Stay in Sao Paulo?
The old heart of São Paulo, Centro, is a glorious contrast of colonial buildings and immense skyscrapers. Home to the Municipal Cathedral and Teatro Municipal, this is the best spot to stay for history-lovers, with a good choice of affordable chain hotels. Brooklin and the Avenue Paulista are the perfect resting place for business travellers, with a plethora of luxury 5-star skyscraper hotels set in the heart of São Paulo’s business district.
If you’re looking to shop, head to upmarket Jardins - a shoppers’ paradise that is also perfect for people-watching and relaxed afternoon strolls down tree-lined streets. This is also one of the safest places to stay in the city. For a more lively stay, the Consolação district draws in a fashionable media crowd with its art-house cinemas, hip boutiques, bohemian bars and unpretentious eateries. If you’re looking for a sanctuary away from the city’s hustle and bustle, the Parque de Ibirapuera is the spot for you.
Sao Paulo Accommodation Options
Room availability in São Paulo during Carnaval in February or March can be tricky. If you want to be sure of securing a room at the city's best hotels, book your hotel early. The rest of the year, there are usually some good last-minute hotel deals to be found if you are flexible, especially on wekends when the business travellers have departed.
If you are on a tight budget, there are plenty of no-frills guesthouses to choose from, especially in the Consolação district. If you have a little more cash to spend, the city also offers plenty of mid-range and business hotels. Many of these can be found in Brooklin, or opt for the popular Bourbon São Paulo Business Hotel in Centro.
If money is no object, São Paulo offers a world-class selection of deluxe places to stay, from international five-star hotels to boutique boltholes. Head to Jardins for the best of the bunch.
Sao Paulo Hotel Recommendations?
If you are looking for the ultimate in luxury, the 5-star Emiliano Hotel is perfect for a special occasion. This sleek, contemporary hotel offers luxury amenities (including the all-important heated toilet seat!) in an enviable location at the centre of Jardins.
A reliable mid-range option is the Hilton Morumbi - a slick skyscraper with top-notch service and facilities. Ideal for business travellers. Mercure Apartments are a good budget option, with branches dotted around town.
Transport in Sao Paulo
An easily accessible airport bus connects São Paulo's Guarulhos International airport with Congonhas Domestic Airport and the city centre. The journey to the city centre takes 30-50 minutes. The best options are the executive city bus (buy a ticket on the arrivals floor at the airport) or take a shuttle minibus service from outside the airport. Prepaid radio taxis also serve the terminals.
