Where to Stay in Rome?
Although pricey, Old Rome, the city’s historic centre is one of the most beguiling places to stay. From here, you can stroll directly out of your hotel into lovely streets and beautiful plazas. It is a great base from which to explore must-see sites such as the Pantheon and the Piazza Navona, as well as numerous delightful palazzos and historic churches. The area is full of small cafés, trattorias and restaurants. The Modern Centre, to the East of Old Rome, is another convenient base for exploring the city. There is a huge choice of accommodation in the area and you are more likely to find a cheap hotel deal here. It is a good area for shopping and there are plenty of restaurants and nightlife options. Highlights in this district include the Trevi Fountain and Palazzo Barberini. Many of the cheapest hotels in this neighbourhood can be found near the Roma Termini railway station. If you are in Rome to explore the treasures of the Vatican, there are many affordable hotels in the area surrounding the papal state. If you are looking for nightlife, consider Trastevere, a district that has numerous bars and clubs.
Rome Accommodation Options
The Italian capital is the country’s largest city. It has all the accommodation options you would expect from such a cosmopolitan tourist destination, from cheap hotels and hostels to the ultimate in style and luxury. At the top end of the spectrum, Rome has a great number of designer boutique and opulent townhouse hotels to choose from. There are also luxury, international chain hotels offering all the facilities you would expect, from spas and swimming pools to conference centres and restaurants. Rome is a year-round destination, but if you are flexible with dates it is sometimes possible to find cheap, last-minute hotel deals. There are also many budget hostels and more affordable options, with a concentration of these near the railway station. Small, family-run pensioni (guesthouses) also provide good value for money. Families and those on longer stays might consider renting an apartment.
