Where to Stay in Phuket?

Phuket is the largest of Thailand’s islands and as such has a well-developed tourist infrastructure and an excellent selection of hotels, ranging from cheap, budget accommodation to exclusive beachside retreats. If you want to be at the heart of the action, head to Hat Patong itself where there are hotels to suit all budgets. Not far from Patong, but much quieter is Kamala where there is also a good accommodation selection, including affordable guesthouses.

For high-end beachfront accommodation there are several luxurious resorts, including the Banyan Tree, on Ao Bang Thao. Just along the coast Ao Pansea is home to the island’s most exclusive resorts.

Some of the smaller islands off Phuket’s coast offer attractive places to stay. The resort on Ko Hae makes for a peaceful overnight stay when the day-trippers have left and Ko Racha Yai is home to an ultra-luxurious resort featuring 70 deluxe villas.

Phuket Accommodation Options

Accommodation in Phuket ranges from sumptuous island retreats which have been voted into the top ten beach resorts in the world, and come recommended by Condé Nast, to more modest guesthouses to accommodate backpackers and travellers on a restricted budget.

Thailand is a good-value destination and it is still possible to get excellent hotel deals, whether you are looking for high-end luxury or more affordable accommodation.

In addition to the über luxurious resorts and the basic guesthouses at the opposite end of the scale, it is possible to get affordable mid-range accommodation in hotels offering facilities such as air-conditioning, swimming pools and on-site restaurants.

Phuket Hotel Recommendations?

Those looking for the ultimate in luxury are spoilt. If you want your own swimming pool, try the Phuket Pavilions or a luxury villa at Amanpuri. The latter also has a gym with floor-to-ceiling glass walls offering views of the Andaman Sea. The Centara Villas Phuket is a more affordable option offering 72 villas in lush tropical gardens. The Bangtao Beach Chalet is another good mid-range option.
