Where to Stay in Paris?
Paris is split into 20 districts known as arrondissements and the River Seine runs through the centre of the city. The Right and Left Banks of the Seine have distinct characters as do the individual districts. While cheap hotel deals can be found throughout the city, there is a concentration of luxurious, upmarket hotels on and around the famous Champs-Élysées in the eight arrondissement, on the Right Bank. This area is also home to the capital's commercial centre making it a popular choice for business travellers. The historic Marais district is home to a number of small, private hotels in historic buildings. On the bohemian Left Bank, there are some fabulous places to stay, as well as more affordable options offering cheap hotel deals. In the Latin Quarter and Saint Germain des Pres, where visitors will find Café de Flore and Les Deux Magots, once favourite haunts of Sartre and Camus, there are a number of chic hotels in elegant buildings. The area around the Eiffel Tower can be fairly pricey, but it is sometimes possible to find cheap last-minute deals there.
Paris Accommodation Options
The French capital has a staggering choice of visitor accommodation, from exclusive hotels with all manner of amenities to basic hostels offering cheap hotel deals. In addition to luxurious chain hotels and more exclusive boutique accommodation - that's often decked out with sumptuous furnishings and housed in beautiful, old buildings - there are numerous smaller hotels that offer simpler, and more affordable accommodation. There are also reasonably-priced bed and breakfasts in private homes (chambres d’hôtes) and a number of good hostels. Serviced apartments are also popular, especially with families and those on longer stays. It is often possible to find good last-minute hotel deals on Parisian accommodation, but it is worth bearing in mind that the summer months and Christmas are particularly busy in the French capital. During these times it is prudent to book ahead if you want to secure the best deal.
