Where to Stay in Mykonos?
If you want to be right in the heart of the action, Mykonos Town (Hora), the island’s capital is the place to stay. It is an attractive place with a warren of streets lined with shops, galleries, bars and restaurants.
Although Mykonos is not the cheapest of the Cyclades, there are accommodation options here to suit most pockets, from relatively cheap hotels and pensions to luxurious design-orientated retreats. This is also the place to stay if you want to shop at the fashionable boutiques selling designer brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci and Armani.
If you don’t want to be based in the town, there is plenty of accommodation to choose from on, or near the island’s main beaches. It can be more peaceful to stay out of town. Agios Ioannis, which was used as the location for Shirley Valentine, is just 5kms from the town and has several accommodation options. Agios Stefanos, Ornos and Platys Gialos are also popular places to stay away from Hora itself.
Mykonos Accommodation Options
High season in Mykonos (July – September) is the most expensive time to visit, with some of the cheapest hotel deals to be found on either side of these peak summer months.
Basic hotels, pensions and domatia (rented rooms in private houses) are the most affordable accommodation options in Mykonos. Much of this type of accommodation can be found in and around Mykonos Town. Mid-range options include hotels that have private bathrooms, but lack other frills. There are also a number of affordable, self-catering apartments in the town. Mykonos has a wide choice of high-end and luxurious hotels. These include intimate boutique hotels and five-star beach resorts. It is also possible to rent plush villas with fully-equipped kitchens and private swimming pools.
Mykonos Hotel Recommendations?
Built into the cliffside above the Mykonos Town, Cavo Tagoo is a stylish five-star property. It has a beautiful saltwater infinity pool with panoramic views. Just on the edge of town, Andronikos Hotel offers stylish rooms and a pool area with a bar and four-poster day beds. Away from the town, in Agios Ioannis, is the Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort. This luxurious beach resort has a choice of restaurants with sea views and a luxury spa.

Mykonos Airport is located approximately 4kms from Mykonos Town. There is a taxi rank at the airport and the drive to town takes around 10 minutes. There is also a bus service to town. Small boats leave from Platys Gialos and link some of the most popular beaches. The island is not very big and it has a reliable bus service. Car and motorbike rental is also available.
