Where to Stay in Lyon?
For tourists, the main sights and points of interest are on the west banks of the River Saône (where Old Lyon is situated) and in the arrondisements sandwiched on the land between the River Saône and the Rhône in an area called Presqu'île.
With its picturesque streets and magnificent buildings, Presqu'île, at the heart of Lyon is one of the most desirable places to stay. It’s a lively area with plenty of restaurants, bars and shops. To be close to beautiful Renaissance buildings and historical sights including the cathedral and the Roman ruins, Vieux Lyon (Old Lyon) also has a good selection of luxurious hotels. The arrondisements, slightly outside the tourist hub offer a range of competitively priced accommodation.
Lyon is the third largest city in France and is an important financial hub. As such hotels get busy, particularly during the week and it is wise to book your accommodation well ahead to get the best deal. Some of the cheapest hotel deals can be found on weekends.

There is accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets in Lyon, from simple, no-frills hotels and hostels to mid-range options, international chains and luxurious design-orientated hotels.
For those on a tight budget, there are a couple of youth hostels to choose from including one in a restored Renaissance building in Old Lyon. There are also cheap hotel deals to be found and there is a large campsite not far from downtown Lyon.
Lyon also has the usual hotel chains offering mid-range to more expensive options including Best Western and Radisson plus local high calibre chains such as Relais & Chateaux. If money is no issue, Lyon also has some ultra-luxurious hotels set in magnificent buildings offering unique design and first-class facilities.

In the heart of the old town, Cour des Loges, resembles a city chateau and is set in a series of historic buildings. It offers facilities including two restaurants (Café-Épicerie and Les Loges), a bar, wine cellar, spa, swimming-pool, sauna and Turkish baths.
Also in the old town, the College Hotel has featured in numerous design magazines and offers 39 air-conditioned rooms with flat-screen televisions. There is also a roof terrace with views of Old Lyon.
The Hôtel des Célestins is a more affordable option set in an attractive square in a central location.
