Where to Stay in Las Vegas?

If you are visiting Las Vegas for the glitz and gambling, then the obvious choice as far as accommodation is concerned is the Strip. This famous, casino-lined boulevard is packed with extravagant hotels and casinos. To avoid excessive noise, hustle and bustle, you may want to find a hotel that doesn’t have a casino attached, and possibly avoid staying on the Strip itself. It is also worth noting that hotel rates are generally significantly cheaper during the week than at weekends when they are at a premium. Plan your visit from Sunday to Thursday for the best hotel deals in Las Vegas. The Strip is home to creatively-themed hotels and institutions including Bellagio, the Venetian and Caesar's Palace. Choose a hotel here and you will see why Las Vegas is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World. Downtown Las Vegas also has its fair share of casinos and hotels. It may not have quite the same glamour as the Strip, but frequent shuttle buses connect the two areas making it a convenient base. Outside of the city, there are plenty of hotels and resorts - some with their own casinos - around Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam.

Las Vegas Accommodation Options

For a uniquely Vegas experience, pick one of the themed hotels on the Strip. Here you can stay in a Vegas approximation of Venice, Paris, Rio or even Southeast Asia. Not content with crossing continents, it's even possible to stay in a medieval-themed hotel complete with jousting shows and dancing maidens. Such novelty comes at a price and it is worth remembering that cheap hotel deals are more readily available for stays during the week. Room rates are most expensive when the weather is at its best, typically from mid-March to May, and September until early November. They are also high when conventions are in town and during Christmas and New Year. There are often cheap hotel deals in the days just before and after these celebrations. Aside from the big themed- and casino hotels, there are smaller hotels, bed and breakfasts, several hostels and campsites in the surrounding areas.

Las Vegas Hotel Recommendations?

Built to resemble a village on Italy's Lake Como - the hotel comes complete with its own eight-acre lake and dancing fountains - Bellagio is the ultimate in luxury. It is a vast Italian-themed hotel with almost 4000 rooms and a sophisticated casino featuring a variety of games.

At the south end of the Strip, the Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas is a non-gaming hotel with an opulent spa, outdoor pool and a choice of restaurants.

The Aria Resort and Casino is a stylish, mega-casino hotel. It has more than 4000 rooms, three pools and 16 restaurants. Its spa has 62 treatment rooms and there is also theatre that houses a tribute to Elvis from Cirque du Soleil.

Transport in Las Vegas

The four-mile long Strip is flat and walkable, but you will need to use public transport or hire a car if you want to explore further afield. Cabs are one of the best ways to get around the city and taxi stands can be found outside hotels. There are also regular buses, trams and a monorail.
