Where to Stay in Faro?Faro is the gateway to The Algarve in Portugal. Despite most tourist interest falling beyond the city, there are some cheap places to stay in Faro for a night or two, with a handful of impressive Roman ruins and Moorish fusion design to be taken in. It’s 4.5 miles from Faro Airport to the city centre and a shuttle bus regularly interconnects between the two points. A popular place to stay is Faro’s Old Town, which is surrounded by Roman walls. There are also several hotels located within the town centre; a short walk from main places of interest including Capella dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) and a number of museums. There’s cheap places to stay to be found close to the local beach, Praia de Faro. From there, take a boat out the uninhabited island of Ilha da Armona. As highlight for kids is a visit to Faro’s Big One water park. Beyond Faro, other popular resort towns to stay in The Algarve include Albufeira, Vilamoura, Portimao and Praia da Rocha; all offering hotel stays from luxury to discount hotels to suit a smaller budget. Faro Accommodation OptionsFaro and the surrounding resorts in The Algarve cater mainly for the sun seeker and the discerning golfer. Naturally, hotels with their own golf courses can be slightly more expensive in cost, but a cheaper stay can be made by checking into one of Faro’s smaller guest houses and visiting the golf course of your choice. In the more popular resorts of Albufeira and Villmoura, are the larger hotels, catering for family-based holidays. Many of the hotels along The Algarve’s coastline provide cheap hotel stays on all-inclusive basis. Levels of comfort slides on a scale to match any spend. Luxury can be found in the form of many five-star golf resorts. These resorts are often home to high-end spa facilities. Cheaper hotels can be found dotted throughout all of the resorts. Most hotels will have an outdoor swimming pool to share. Alternative to a hotel stay, hire one of The Algarve’s many villas. Most have all of the modern facilities required for a chilled out holiday for two, or a getaway for the whole family. Faro Hotel Recommendations?For a budget-level stay with high recommendations and a great central location, try the Residencial Sun Algarve. The hotel is 4 minutes away from Faro’s marina and a short walk from the bus and train station. Transport in FaroFaro is a compact city and it’s unlikely that transport would be required to navigate around. For getting point of the city and to neighbouring resorts, there is a bus station, as well as a train station. For the most flexibility, it’s best to hire a car and take in the sights along The Algarve’s coastal roads.
