Dating back to the early 1900s, Oglebay Resort offers year-round recreation and family-friendly accommodations on 1,700 acres of West Virginia's picturesque landscape. The property was originally owned by Earl W. Oglebay, an Ohio Valley native and Cleveland industrialist, until his death in 1926, when he left the estate to the people of Wheeling.
Today, Oglebay remains the largest self-sustaining city municipal park in the country and offers a championship golf course, 5,000-square-foot spa, the Good Zoo, a ski and snowboard area, miles of trails, a horse riding academy, picnic shelters, tennis courts, a nature center, and the Oglebay Institute which includes the Mansion Museum, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The resort is also known for its popular annual events, including the Winter Festival of Lights, Oglebayfest in the fall and the Antiques Show & Sale.
Travelzoo members stay in the original sections of Wilson Lodge, placing them near the indoor pool and dining facilities. Byrd Deluxe Rooms include LCD televisions, free Wi-Fi, Keurig coffeemakers and the option of one queen, one king or two double beds. Upgrading to a Lakeside Preferred Room adds a wet bar, mini-fridge a small seating area, and views of the West Virginia hillsides and holiday light displays (seasonal).
Offering diverse dining options, the resort’s restaurants are guaranteed to please even the pickiest palates with regionally sourced cuisine, special menus catering to dietary restrictions and fine dining overlooking Schenk Lake.
