The East Sussex National is set in 1100 acres of countryside, around 10 minutes' drive from the borders of both the South Downs National Park (an International Dark Sky Reserve) and the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is a great base from which to explore their rolling hills and bustling market towns.
The market town of Lewes is approximately 17 minutes' drive away. Explore the Norman castle remains or visit Wealden hall, Anne of Cleves house, given to her as part of the divorce settlement by Henry VIII.
The market town of Battle is approximately 40 minutes' drive away. You can stand on the spot where the Battle of 1066 took place and follow the footsteps of King Harold and William the conqueror.
The Pavilion Restaurant has two AA Rosettes and serves classical dishes prepared with ingredients sourced from local suppliers. The Hunnington Restaurant and Ryder Bar & Terrace is in the golf club house and serves traditional home cooking, light lunches and sandwiches, and it has an outside terrace. The Sussex Lounge has outdoor seating in the gardens or on the balcony terrace, and is ideal to read the morning papers, or have a cream tea or an aperitif before dinner.
Rooms are designed in neutral colours and Club Rooms have balconies that overlook the golf course and the countryside.
The health club offers aerobics classes and its facilities include an indoor swimming pool, a spa pool, a sauna, and steam room and a gym. Horsted Spa has an aromatherapy room, a monsoon shower, a Jacuzzi, a steam room and sauna and a relaxation room. There is limited availability in the spa on weekends -- pre-book treatments and to use the facilities.
There are also two championship golf courses; the East Course and West Course.
