Hôtel Basss is a cosy property in Abbesses, an area that has an "attractively festive, village-like atmosphere", says Rough Guides. Unwind at a pavement café on the Place des Abbesses or visit the I Love You Wall nearby -- this wall of tiles was created by artists Frédéric Baron and Claire Kito, and spells out "I love you" in 250 languages.
The property is a 5-minute walk from the world-famous cabaret, Moulin Rouge, and Musée Gustave Moreau and Musée de la Vie Romantique are also nearby. It's only a little further to Montmartre -- "the most unabashedly romantic part of Paris" (Time Out). Its well-known sights include Sacré-Coeur cathedral, Montmartre Cemetery and the Place du Tertre, which was once the village square. Hop aboard a funicular or climb the hill, and take a tour of the neighbourhood using Time Out's walking guide. Abbesses and Blanche Metro stations are both around five minutes' walk from the hotel.
Nespresso coffee and pastries are provided in the hotel lobby every day from 2-7pm, and there's a typical continental buffet in the mornings.
Across six floors (accessible by a small lift), there are 36 rooms overlooking either the city or a courtyard (the latter are quieter). All have air conditioning, tea- and coffee-making facilities and a small shower. Standard rooms are on the small side (normal in Paris). Superior Rooms offer more space. There's free Wi-Fi throughout, and you can rent a portable device for browsing the internet while sightseeing for 1€ per day.
