This top-ranked spot just outside downtown Milwaukee is a good pick for guests looking for a longer stay or just a place that's got style to spare -- the 1920's era building retains tons of art deco charm -- but has a feel that's a bit different from your usual cookie-cutter downtown chain hotels.
Spacious rooms feature high ceilings, European-styled artwork on the walls and a fully equipped kitchen, along with extra space for dining or working. Based on this alone, the Plaza is a great choice for an extended stay, but you might see some local stars during your visit as well -- many theater companies stay at the Plaza during their Milwaukee performances. Rooms also come with free Wi-Fi and complimentary car service can be arranged; laundry services are also available.
The on-site cafe that has a 50's-lunch-counter feel recently underwent a full renovation and is open for breakfast, lunch and brunch daily. In warmer weather, there's an intimate outdoor patio flanked with high, ivy-covered walls for quiet, comfortable alfresco dining. (If you're planning on sleeping late, the hotel recommends you request a room away from the restaurant, as it can get busy.) The Plaza is also a true walk-up -- there's no elevator, but nearly all guests are placed on the first and second floors.
OnMilwaukee.com adds that "it's a rare pleasure to stay in a hotel that's so well located." Families love that the Plaza is a quick walk to the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World and the Betty Brinn Children's Museum along with everything downtown. It's also a short drive to the Historic Third Ward and Bayview neighborhoods, which feature a number of great bars, restaurants and shops.
