Hadley Park House Hotel, a Grade II-listed "elegant Georgian mansion" (The AA Hotel Guide 2016) from the 18th century, sits in two acres of grounds in Shropshire.
The hotel is 10 minutes' drive from Telford town centre and 20 minutes from Ironbridge, a village on the River Severn sometimes known as "the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution". In 1779, the first arch bridge in the world to be made of cast iron was constructed here. It became a symbol of what could be achieved with this new material and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ironbridge has 10 museums, including Blists Hill Victorian Town -- a reconstructed Victorian village -- and Enginuity, a science and technology museum.
There's even more on offer nearby for history buffs. The impressive ruins of Buildwas Abbey, a 12th-century Cistercian church (an English Heritage site open 25 March-30 September), are 15 minutes' drive from the hotel, and RAF Cosford, an aviation museum with a collection that includes a Spitfire and a Lincoln bomber, is 18 minutes away.
The property has 22 "spacious and well equipped" (The AA) bedrooms -- 12 are in the original house and the remaining 10 are in the West Wing. Wi-Fi is free throughout. The AA-Rosette-awarded Dorrell's restaurant has "good food, polished service, great ingredients and precision cooking" (Shropshire Star). The restaurant uses locally sourced produce whenever possible in its modern British cuisine, and can assist if you have any dietary restrictions.
