Situated between the high-society areas of Sloane Square and Knightsbridge in West London, Belgraves is an example of "restrained, cosy sophistication", according to The Guardian.
Thompson hotels made its name in Manhattan design hotels, and Belgraves is its first venture outside of North America. There are some noticeable American touches -- doormen embrace a smart-casual dress code (jeans, coupled with shirts and ties), and the bare-brick walls are reminiscent of New York city lofts. But most importantly, the welcome is friendly and the design, chic.
The new restaurant, Pont St, is headed by the youngest Executive Chef in Britain and offers an eclectic seasonal menu. Do stop for a cocktail (or Cuban cigar) in the relaxed mezzanine bar -- the Somerset Treacle (cider brandy, maple syrup, apple juice and house bitters) is delicious.
The bedrooms have won praise from Condé Nast Traveller for being "well thought-out." Beds are dressed with 400-thread-count sheets, making them tricky to leave of a morning, and there are oversized terrycloth robes in every room. Request one on a higher floor (eight to 10) for views over leafy Belgravia.
