The Llawnroc Hotel is a cosy boutique hotel in Gorran Haven on the south coast of Cornwall. It is on the Roseland Peninsula -- an area that is known for its "intimate wooded valleys, medieval field patterns and chamfered cliffs leading down to hidden coves" (The Daily Telegraph).
Gorran Haven is a small fishing village with white-washed cottages and a working harbour. The hotel is right in the centre of the village, a couple of minutes' walk from the sandy beach and the South West Coast Path. It is a 10-minute drive from the picturesque port of Mevagissey and the Lost Gardens of Heligan -- a "fascinating" forgotten Victorian garden (Rough Guides) that was only rediscovered in 1990. The biodomes at the Eden Project are 20 minutes' drive away.
The hotel's Gwineas bistro makes good use of local produce in its classic menu of burgers, sandwiches, and fish and chips. It occupies the site of an old inn, and the bar has live sports on TV and Cornish ales on tap, as well as the usual wines, lagers and cocktails. You can dine on the terrace in good weather. The hotel also has a cookery school, offering classes on foraging, butchery, pastry and bread making, and there's a day spa for facials, massages and manicures.
There are 18 boutique rooms, some with sea views and others with balconies. Each room has an iPod dock, a PlayStation and free Wi-Fi.
