The Colonnade Hotel is a chic property in the Back Bay neighbourhood, southwest of Boston Harbour and the North End.
Back Bay is an upmarket district of Victorian brownstone houses and high-end shops. The Prudential Center mall is across the road from the hotel, and Copley Place mall is next door. It's also in a good spot for sights: the hotel is 10 minutes' walk from the John Hancock Tower, a 62-storey observation tower, and the 19th-century Boston Public Library (free tours run daily). It is a 30-minute walk from Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Prudential Station, on the Green line of the T (Boston's transport system), is right outside the hotel. The journey to Park Street, for ice skating at Frog Pond in Boston Common in the winter, takes 10 minutes.
The hotel's restaurant, Brasserie Jo, serves French dishes created by James Beard-nominated chef Jean Joho. Fodor's is a fan of their "fantastic salads", and recommends the niçoise. The hotel also has a rooftop pool (open Memorial Day-Labor Day), and a 1000-square-foot gym stocked with fresh fruit, towels and water.
Spacious rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows with views of historic South End or Huntington Avenue. In-room amenities include a Keurig coffeemaker and free Wi-Fi.
Travelzoo tip: The Holiday Pops 2016, during which the Boston Symphony Orchestra will play popular Christmas music, runs from 30 November-31 December. The Symphony Hall is 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.
