This 16th-century property in the centre of Stratford-upon-Avon was formerly an alehouse, and still has original Tudor features such as half timbering, slanted windows, oak beams and an open fireplace. The Falcon Hotel is a great option if you want to be in the thick of it all -- with the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Shakespeare's Birthplace, Bridge Street and the High Street all a short walk away.
There are 83 bedrooms at the hotel, each with free Wi-Fi. Standard rooms are in the main house and the modern wing, and Executive Rooms are all in the main house. Dinner is in the AA-Rosette-awarded Will's Place restaurant.
The Avon Ring -- a 5-minute walk away -- is a canal ring that connects Stratford-upon-Avon with Evesham, Tewkesbury and Worcester.
While in Stratford, you can visit the scenes of key moments in Shakespeare's life, starting at his birthplace and childhood home on Henley Street. Anne Hathaway's Cottage & Gardens, where Shakespeare courted his future wife, is a 25-minute walk from the hotel. A short drive outside Stratford is Mary Arden’s Farm, where his grandparents lived -- explore the hay bale maze, see a falconry display or watch the farmer's wife prepare home-grown food in the farmhouse kitchen. Finish at Holy Trinity Church, where the Bard was both baptised and buried.
Other attractions include Stratford Butterfly Farm, which has the UK's largest collection of tropical butterflies, and Stratford Town Walk, winner of the Tourism Initiative of the Year at the Pride of Stratford Awards 2015.
Warwick and Kenilworth castles are both within a 25-minute drive of the hotel.
