Balmer Lawn Hotel is a 4-star hotel on the edge of Brockenhurst village in the New Forest National Park. One of the largest properties in the area, the hotel is almost a destination in itself. The 19th-century former hunting lodge housed the Canadian army in World War II, and secret D-Day landing documents were found during the 2016 renovation.
The hotel is in a peaceful spot near the Lymington River and ponies graze nearby. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails in the local area, and Brockenhurst Manor Golf Club is a 5-minute drive away. Also worth a visit are Beaulieu Motor Museum (a 15-minute drive), and Exbury Gardens & Steam Museum (20 minutes by car).
There's plenty to keep guests entertained on site, including two pools (one outdoor, one indoor), squash and tennis courts, and a spa and a range of treatments available to pre-book (charges apply). The AA-Rosette-awarded Beresford's restaurant specialises in modern cooking that makes the most of local ingredients. The terrace is open in fine weather, and Sunday lunch is accompanied by live music until 3:30pm.
The individually decorated rooms offer views of the countryside and cricket pitch, and have free Wi-Fi. Some Superior Rooms have balconies, and there are 4-poster rooms with views of the forest. Family rooms are available and there are DVDs, game consoles and games available to borrow. Dogs are welcome (charges apply).
The bedrooms included in the offer and the hotel's public areas have recently been refurbished. Renovation work on other bedrooms will be ongoing until February, 2017. Rooms are being renovated one at a time, and disruption will be minimal.
