Chilston Park Hotel is a Grade I-listed 17th-century manor house set in private parkland in Kent. With its "fragrant landscape of gentle hills, fertile farmland, cultivated country estates and fruit-laden orchards," Kent "isn't described as the garden of England for nothing", says Lonely Planet.
Canterbury, which "tops the charts for English cathedral cities" (Lonely Planet), is around 35 minutes' drive from the hotel. Explore the medieval city's narrow alleyways, riverside gardens and ancient city walls. The "fairy tale stronghold" (Fodor's) of Leeds Castle, a favourite home of many medieval English queens, is 10 minutes' drive away.
The Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is a hotspot for walking, cycling and horse riding. It's home to Belmont House and Gardens, which are 25 minutes' drive from the hotel. National Trust properties Ightham Mote and Knole House, as well as Lullingstone Castle, are within 45 minutes' drive.
The hotel is replete with antiques and traditional furnishings. The restaurant, Culpeper's, holds two AA Rosettes and uses ingredients sourced locally. The AA says "the kitchen deals in modern British cooking clearly rooted in the classics but with some inventive combinations".
Bedrooms are individually designed. Some have 4-poster beds and many offer garden views. Rooms are located in the coach house, stables, cottage and manor house, and all have a flat-screen TV and free Wi-Fi.
