More Room Types

Perched on a hill above Whitstable, the Crescent Turner Hotel is in an area of Kent that inspired much of JMW Turner’s artwork. Understandable, then, that when it opened in October 2014, the hotel’s owners chose to pay homage to one of the town’s most famous visitors.

The stylish boutique hotel sits two miles out of Whitstable, with views over the Isle of Sheppey and Essex. It’s a 10-minute drive into town (or a 45-minute walk down a steep hill), where you can stroll around Whitstable Harbour and its weekend market, visit Whitstable Castle and Gardens, or hire the hotel’s beach hut for the day and soak up the bohemian atmosphere.

You’ll find both guests and locals in the hotel’s restaurant, which “is aiming to be a dining destination in its own right” (The Guardian) -- reservations are recommended. Expect modern British fare, such as beef with smoked garlic and mushroom puree, or sea bass with sweet potato and kale. The bar has a good whisky selection and many wines available by the glass. In the morning, there’s a good continental buffet, with hot food to order.

There are 18 rooms here, all light and individually designed -- WiFi, DVD players and tea and coffee-facilities come as standard, and views (over the Kent countryside or the sea) are lovely. The stairs to the upper floors are quite steep, so if anyone in your party has special mobility needs, it’s worth requesting a room on the ground floor.

From the press:
