Set on the Venetian Lagoon, Savoia & Jolanda Hotel is in an excellent location for visitors. St Mark’s Square and the Doges Palace are less than a 5-minute walk away and the Rialto Bridge is a pleasant 12-minute stroll from the hotel. You’re also near the San Zaccaria water taxi stop on the Grand Canal, so getting around by water is easy. The property also has two motorboats available for guests to hire and there are complimentary trips to the glass factories on Murano Island.
This is a busy part of Venice, particularly in the summer, but the hotel, which was once a Venetian Palace, is an oasis of calm. There’s air conditioning throughout, a small lift, high ceilings and historic features, plus double glazing in all of the recently renovated bedrooms.
Elegant bedrooms are spread across two buildings -- one on the canal, and one further back near the San Zaccaria church. The Standard rooms are at the rear of the hotel, overlooking Venice’s labyrinth of streets. Upgrade to a Superior room for more space, or to a Junior Suite for lagoon views and lounge areas. Many of the Junior Suite Deluxe rooms also have balconies. Wi-Fi is free throughout and all rooms have Sky TV, mini bars and marble bathrooms. Some have 4-poster beds.
Downstairs, the Principessa restaurant serves a full breakfast buffet. There’s an al fresco terrace with potted plants right on the canal, and Venetian classics are served later for dinner. You are also in a city with a plethora of restaurants -- just an 11-minute walk is Via Garibaldi, loved by the locals.
