This downtown boutique hotel has a welcoming atmosphere and dedicated following. It was recently given a new lease on life with a $4-million renovation in 2013, which restored period features (including the original 1911 lobby skylights), but added high-speed Wi-Fi, a new gym and smartened up the guest rooms. Combined with a host of extras, including coffee in the mornings, a nightly wine hour (5:30-6:30pm) and a rooftop running track, it all makes for a welcoming San Francisco base.
The hotel sits in a convenient location on the corner of Sutter and Kearny streets, making it handy for business travellers (on the edge of the Financial District), and sightseers alike. Union Square and Chinatown Gate are just two blocks away and the hotel runs free architectural walking tours most days at 11am. There are also jogging maps of the surrounding area if you've had enough of the roof track.
Rooms aren't large, but have been recently renovated and come with a Keurig coffeemaker, leather headboard, plush velvet armchair and glam Art Deco-style side tables. Suites are almost twice as large as standard rooms and have their own separate living area. Request a room facing the internal courtyard to avoid street noise from bustling Keary Street below.

20 minutes by taxi from San Francisco Airport and there’s valet parking
available for those arriving by car (extra charge applies). By public transportation
the journey is a little longer, but cheaper. Take BART from the airport to the Montgomery
Street stop, which is a 2-minute walk to the hotel.
